The following are potential catalyst corridors<br />

within the City of <strong>Tulsa</strong>. In general, these<br />

case studies identify the corridor planning<br />

process and illustrate the range of projects<br />

that can be served by an urban corridor<br />

planning process that incorporates CSS.<br />

Identify Corridor vision and<br />

Determine Study Area<br />

The U.S. 169 Expressway provides north-south<br />

mobility for the east-side of <strong>Tulsa</strong> using 6 vehicular<br />

lanes for automobile traffc. The vision for this<br />

corridor is to be multi-modal. Strategically integrating<br />

transit, transit oriented development and walkable<br />

places into the corridor will provide greater travel<br />

choices for <strong>Tulsa</strong> residents, while improving the<br />

regional through traffc capacity. To accomplish this,<br />

the study area must include trip patterns beyond the<br />

City of <strong>Tulsa</strong>, thus one half-mile on either side of<br />

U.S. 169 Expressway from Owasso city limits to the<br />

Creek Turnpike was considered.<br />

Determine Area Context and Needs<br />

Currently, the corridor has over 90,000 cars of<br />

average daily traffc with 6 freeway lanes facilitating<br />

this vehicular movement. Major employment and<br />

commercial destinations in the corridor attract<br />

travelers from all parts of the region, but the<br />

predominant travel pattern is from northern and<br />

southern suburban cities to <strong>Tulsa</strong> destinations, such<br />

as the multiple shopping centers and Hospitals<br />

within one mile of the corridor. Currently, planned<br />

land uses in the corridor will result in increasing<br />

levels of congestion. Figure 5 shows that in 2030 the<br />

corridor will have a failing level of service even after<br />

the expressway is expanded to 8-lanes. The traffc<br />
