However, growth continued for the region as a whole. The<br />

seven-county <strong>Tulsa</strong> Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA)<br />

grew from 859,532 people in 2000 to 916,079 in 2008,<br />

a gain of 56,547 residents (7%). Since 1970, the seven<br />

counties that make up the MSA have grown by 60%,<br />

whereas the City of <strong>Tulsa</strong> has grown by 16%.<br />

Charts 4 and 5 below illustrate how the City of <strong>Tulsa</strong>’s<br />

share of population has declined relative to unincorporated<br />

<strong>Tulsa</strong> County and the six surrounding counties.<br />
