REMOVAL<br />

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.<br />

Disconnect black wire with yellow<br />

stripe from magnetic switch terminal,<br />

and black battery cable from battery<br />

terminal of magnetic switch.<br />

2. Remove two bolts securing starting<br />

motor to transmission case. Pull<br />

starter assembly forward and remove<br />

starting motor.<br />

6. Remove pinion stopper located at<br />

the end of armature shaft. To remove<br />

stopper, first remove stopper washer<br />

and push stopper to clutch side and<br />

then, after removing stopper clip, remove<br />

stopper with over-running<br />

clutch. Withdraw over-running clutch<br />

assembly from armature shaft.<br />

1. Loosen nut securing connecting<br />

plate to magnetic switch "M" terminal.<br />

Remove three screws securing<br />

magnetic switch and remove magnetic<br />

switch assembly.<br />

4. Remove yoke assembly by hitting<br />

lightly with a wooden hammer.<br />

2. Remove two through bolts and<br />

rear cover.<br />

1. Disconnect connecting plate from<br />

"M" terminal of magnetic switch. Remove<br />

two screws securing magnetic<br />

switch and remove magnetic switch<br />

assembly.<br />

2. Remove dust cover, E-ring and<br />

thrust washer(s).<br />

5. Withdraw armature assembly and<br />

shift lever.<br />

3. Set brushes free from commutator<br />

by lifting <strong>up</strong> brush springs.<br />
