Model SWP123 is a swash plate<br />

type compressor. As with conventional<br />

crank type compressors, reciprocating<br />

pistons compress incoming gas. The<br />

principal difference between these two<br />

types of compressors lies in the way in<br />

which the piston is driven, by crankshaft<br />

rotation on the one hand and by<br />

swash plate rotation on the other.<br />

When the swash plate compressor is<br />

used in air conditioning system, the<br />

following advantages are obtained.<br />

1. The shape is cylindrical, facilitating<br />

installation.<br />

2. Torque changes are minimal since a<br />

number of cylinders are used.<br />

3. Complete mechanical balance is<br />

possible, limiting vibration and<br />

noise and allowing high-speed operation.<br />

4. Discharge per unit of compressor<br />

volume is quite high, resulting in<br />

high cooling capacity and s<strong>up</strong>erb<br />
