INSTALLATION<br />

1. Replace two O-rings with new<br />

ones.<br />

2. Apply adequate compressor oil to<br />

new O-rings, and install them on expansion<br />

valve.<br />

3. Fit expansion valve to case, and<br />

install bolts and nuts thereon.<br />

Note: In inserting valve into case, be<br />

sure to insert it parallelly to case<br />

without turning it. Never twist<br />

valve in the case, otherwise O-ring<br />

will be caused to twist.<br />

4. Tighten two mounting nuts horizontally.<br />

5. Connect tube to expansion valve.<br />

6. Work that follows is to be done in<br />

reverse sequence of removal.<br />

7. Lastly, evacuate and recharge<br />

system. As to evacuating and charging<br />

system, refer to "Evacuating and<br />

Charging System".<br />

8. Conduct leak test and insure that<br />

there is no leak from connection.<br />

EVAPORATOR<br />

HOUSING<br />

REMOVAL<br />

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.<br />

2. Discharge system.<br />

3. Remove console box.<br />

4. Remove finisher. See Figure<br />

AC-43.<br />

5. Remove retaining screw of 3-way<br />

air duct.<br />

6. Remove instrument panel reinforcement,<br />

and remove finisher<br />

brackets. See Figure AC-50.<br />

7. From 3-way air duct, remove air<br />

duct on assistant's seat side, then pull<br />

out 3-way air duct.<br />

8. Disconnect both inlet and outlet<br />

tubes of evaporator.<br />

Note: Upon disconnection of tubes,<br />

put plugs in their openings to keep<br />

dust and moisture out.<br />

9. Remove retaining screw, grommet<br />

cover and grommet from tubes of<br />

evaporator.<br />

10. Remove defroster ducts.<br />

11. Remove instrument panel center<br />

stays. See Figure AC-51.<br />

12. Remove drain hose.<br />

13. Remove brackets, installed on<br />

heater unit, of evaporator inlet and<br />

outlet tubes by removing two attaching<br />

screws.<br />

14. Remove control cables from<br />

heater door and water cock.<br />

15. Remove four vacuum hoses<br />

from vacuum selector valve.<br />

16. Remove four wiring connectors<br />

(for control panel illumination lamp,<br />

micro switch, fan speed switch and<br />

thermostat respectively).<br />

17. Remove two attaching bolts installed<br />

on lower side of evaporator<br />

housing, and let evaporator housing<br />

fall down. See Figure AC-52.<br />

18. Pull out evaporator housing<br />

when it has come off bracket installed<br />

on heater unit.<br />

Removing evaporator<br />

housing<br />

1. Remove four fixing clips of <strong>up</strong>per<br />

and lower cases.<br />

2. Pull <strong>up</strong> <strong>up</strong>per case and separate it<br />

from lower case.<br />

3. Cut off sealing packing with knife<br />

at the conjunction of cases.<br />

4. Pull out thermostat capillary tube<br />

from evaporator core.<br />

5. Pull out evaporator core from<br />

lower case.<br />
