rock and circumbated around it. <strong>The</strong>se types of idols were called al­<br />

Anfdb.<br />

When one of them used to rest on their travel paths, they used to<br />

take four stones, and make the best looking one their lord. <strong>The</strong> other<br />

three would be used to support his spot. When resuming the travel,<br />

he would leave all four rocks behind, and take four new rocks at the<br />

next rest spot.<br />

When Allah's Messenger (;i) became victorious over Makkah, he<br />

used his bow to stab the idols surrounding the Ka1bah in their eyes<br />

"Truth has come, and falsehood has departed. Indeed<br />

is falsehood, [<strong>by</strong> nature], ever bound to depart."<br />

<strong>The</strong>n he ordered the idols to be pushed on their faces, then to be<br />

removed from the Masjid and burnt.<br />

lbn 1Abbas (rat/!y.Alltihu 'anhuma) said: 'It was during the time of<br />

Yazd that idols were worshipped, and many people converted away<br />

from Islam.'<br />

97) Abii Raja' Al-'UtaridI said: 'We used to worship stones, and<br />

when we found a better stone than the first one, we would<br />

throw the first one and take the latter. But if we could not get<br />

a stone then we would collect some soil and then bring a sheep<br />

and milk it over the soil, and perform tawij' around it.'97<br />
