1. <strong>The</strong> First: You will still be affected even without contemplating<br />

the lyrics of the songs.<br />

2. <strong>The</strong> Second· Rarely do these songs include wisdom. <strong>The</strong>y discuss<br />

falling in love with Allah (the Mighty and the Majestic) instead<br />

of instilling concepts of reverance and glorification into the<br />

listener's mind.<br />

Now that we have completed giving the advice, let us discuss what<br />

scholars said about singing:<br />

i. Madhhab of Ahmad<br />

As for AQ.mad's school of thought:<br />

Poems during his time discussed asceticism, yet they used to apply<br />

rhythm to them. This was why varying opinions of AQ.mad were<br />

reported:<br />

His son 'Abdullah said that his father said: Singing (al-ghind} grows<br />

hypocricy (al-nifdq) in one's heart, I dislike it.<br />

Isma'Il lbn Ishaq al-Thaqafi reported that Almad said: I dislike<br />

singing, it is a bid'ah, do not sit with them (singers).<br />

And Abii'l-I:Iarith reported that he said: "Taghbir (a form of singing)<br />

is bid'ah," he was told: "But it softenes the heart," he insisted:<br />

"It is a bid' ah."<br />

Ya'qiib al-J:IashimI reported thatAQ.mad said: Taghbir is a bid' ah, an<br />

innovation (mufldath).<br />

And Ya'qiib lbn Bukhtan reported that AQ.mad said: "I dislike<br />
