<strong>AL</strong>-LAYTH IBN SA'D: <strong>Ibn</strong> 'Abdur-Ralman al-Fahrni, Abu al­<br />

J::larith, the <strong>Imam</strong> of Egypt in }:iadith, fiqh and language. He was<br />

trustworthy and precise and narrated many alad"th. Al-Shafi'I<br />

regarded him to be a better jurist than Malik. He died in the year<br />

175H.<br />

M<strong>AL</strong>IK IBN ANAS: <strong>Ibn</strong> Malik ibnAbu 'Amral-AsbahI. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Imam</strong><br />

of Madinah in his time, one of the great <strong>Imam</strong>s of Islam and<br />

author of the famous Muwana. His virtues are many and the<br />

scholar's praise of him is abundant. He died in the year 179H.<br />

MA'ROF <strong>AL</strong>-KARKHi: <strong>Ibn</strong> Fairoz,AbuMa'fu?, one of the shaykhs<br />

famous for asceticism and one whose supplication would be answered.<br />

He died in the year 200H.<br />

MU'ADH IBN JAB<strong>AL</strong>: <strong>Ibn</strong> 'Amr <strong>Ibn</strong> Aws al-AnarI al-KhazrajI,<br />

Abu 'Abdul-Ralman, one of the foremost Companions known<br />

for his knowledge of legal rulings and the Qur'an. He was present<br />

at the pledge of 'Uqbah and witnessed Badr and the following<br />

battles and was martyred due to a plague in the year 17H or<br />

18H.<br />

MUJ::IAMMAD IBN '<strong>AL</strong>I <strong>AL</strong>-J::IAKIM<strong>AL</strong>-TIRMIDHI: From the<br />

great scholars of Khurasan who authored some famous works<br />

and was devoted to }:iadith. He died in the year 320H.<br />

<strong>AL</strong>-MUKHTAR IBN ABO UBAYD: <strong>Ibn</strong> Mas'ud al-Thaqafi, Abu<br />

Is}:iaq, who claimed Prophethood for himself. He was killed <strong>by</strong><br />

Mu'ab in the year 67H.<br />

MU'AWIYAH: <strong>Ibn</strong> Abu Sufyan <strong>Ibn</strong> Sakhr <strong>Ibn</strong> J::larb <strong>Ibn</strong> Umayyah<br />

<strong>Ibn</strong> 'Abd Shams al-QurashI al-AmawI. He accepted Islam in the<br />

year of the Conquest and witnessed ljunain and al- Yamdmah. He<br />
