Any so called 'al-Jjaqiqah' beyond this is nothing more than<br />

devilish whispers. He who seeks al-I:Iaqiqah through means other than al­<br />

Shari'ah is a person who is deceived and arrog,ant."<br />

Devil's <strong>Deception</strong> of $Ufts in the Matter of Burying<br />

Books and Throwing them into the Water<br />

Some $Ujis occupied themselves with writing useful knowledge,<br />

then Iblis deceived them to think that action is all that mattered, so,<br />

they buried their books.<br />

Al:i-mad <strong>Ibn</strong> Abi al-l:lawarI threw his books in the sea, and said<br />

addressing them: "You were good guides, but what useful is a guide<br />

for one who has reached his destination?!"<br />

And Al:i-mad <strong>Ibn</strong> AbI al-l:lawari continued the search of the l:iadith<br />

for thirty years.When he acquired the maximum learning, he carried<br />

his books to the sea and threw them in; and he said, "O, my learning,<br />

1 treat you like this not because I insult you, nor do 1 belittle your<br />

status, but because I sought you to lead me to Allah, and when 1<br />

have been led to Allah I am no more in need of you. "<br />

Abii Nar al-'fiisi said: I heard a number of the shaikhs of Rayy<br />

say: "Abii 'Abdullah al-MuqrI, inherited from his father fifty thousand<br />

dinars besides estates and furniture, but gave it all away, expending<br />

on the poor. I asked Abii 'Abdullah about this, and his reply<br />

was: In my early youth I put on pilgrim attire and departed to Makkah<br />

alone, having left myself nothing to which I could return <strong>The</strong> effort<br />

which it cost me to relinquish my books and the knowledge and<br />

l:i-adith which I had amassed was more painful to me than the jour-<br />
