Chapter Eleven: <strong>The</strong> Devil's <strong>Deception</strong> of the $iijis<br />

Allah's Messenger (): Get it so you may wear it on Fridays and for<br />

the delegation. Allah's Messenger () replied: "That is the dress of<br />

one who has no share (in the Hereafter)."177<br />

So Allah's Messenger () did notobjectto looking good, but objected<br />

to it being made from silk.<br />

Abii'l-'Aliyah said: Muslims used to adorn themselves when visiting<br />

one another.<br />

Tamim al-Dari (ratf!JA.llrihu 'anhu) bought a garment for one thousand<br />

(in currency), he used to wear it during prayer.<br />

<strong>Ibn</strong> Mas'iid (ratf&Alkihu 'anhu) used to wear the best of clothes,<br />

and perfumes.<br />

Al-I:Iasan al-Bari used to wear good clothes.<br />

And Malik <strong>Ibn</strong> Anas used to wear good 'adani clothes.<br />

And Al).mad <strong>Ibn</strong> I:Ianbal used to buy garments worth one thousand<br />

dinars.<br />

<strong>The</strong>y used to prefer being ascetic, but to a degree. <strong>The</strong>y used to<br />

wear old clothes at home, but when they used to leave their homes,<br />

they used to adorn themselves and wore clothes that were neither<br />

too fancy not too ragged.<br />

'Isa <strong>Ibn</strong> Hazim said: Ibrahim <strong>Ibn</strong> Adham used to wear linen, cotton,<br />

fur clothes. I never saw him wearing wool clothes, or clothes of<br />

fame.<br />
