of asceticism (al-zuhd), putting oneself in the way of being greeted<br />

and having one's hand kissed and perhaps being asked <strong>by</strong> someone<br />

to make du 'd' for him. He, in turn, raises his hands and makes du'd' as<br />

if he were bringing down the answer to the prayer.<br />

Ibrahim al-Nakh'I was asked to make du'd' for a group of people.<br />

He disliked this and responded harshly to those who asked him to<br />

do so.<br />

Fear has led some ,$Ufts to extreme humility (al-du/ and shame (alpryd'),<br />

so that they will not raise their heads to the sky. This is no<br />

virtue, since there is no humility (khushiij superior to the humility<br />

of the Prophet ).<br />

In the alJIQ. of Muslim, there is a ladith according to which Abii<br />

Miisa (rat/!JA.lldhu 'anhu) said: "<strong>The</strong> Prophet () of ten used to raise<br />

his head to the sky."<br />

We learn from this that it is encouraged to look to the sky in order<br />

to take warning from its signs.<br />

Allah said:<br />

"Have they not looked at the heaven above them - how<br />

We structured it and adorned it and [how] it has no rifts?"<br />

[Q4f (50): 6]<br />

and said:<br />
