ble to prostrate on something that was not from the earth, including<br />

wool and leather. Using stones in ablution would only be sufficient<br />

after defecation and not urination. Marrying a woman from the people<br />

of the book was not permissible. And divorce would only become<br />

valid if it took place in the presence of two trustworthy witnesses.<br />

<strong>The</strong>y also says if a man misses the later evening prayer <strong>by</strong> falling<br />

asleep till past midnight, when he wakes he must make compensate<br />

what he missed, but fast next morning <strong>by</strong> way of compensation for<br />

his omission. If a woman shaves her hair, she must make the same<br />

compensation as for unintentional murder. If one tears his garment<br />

at the death of a son or a wife must pay the same compensation due<br />

for perjury. If a man unknowingly marries a woman who has a husband<br />

already, he must pay five dirhams in alms. One who has twice<br />

suffered chastisement for wine-drinking must suffer death for a third<br />

offence. <strong>The</strong> beer-drinker is to be chastised like the wine-drinker. A<br />

thief's hand should be amputated from the roots of the fingers, the<br />

palm being left; but if he steal a second time, his left foot shall be<br />

amputated. If he steal a third time he shall remain in prison till he<br />

dies. <strong>The</strong>y regard the fish Jim as unlawful food, as also what is slaughtered<br />

<strong>by</strong> 'the People ef the Book:' <strong>The</strong>y also make it a condition of<br />

slaughtering that the qiblah must be faced.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re are many utterly evil beliefs of the Rafiqah. <strong>The</strong>y have been<br />

deprived from (getting the reward of) prayer because they do not<br />

wash their feet for wutfii', and they were deprived of congregation<br />

because they required a faultless leader, and they were inflicted with<br />

insulting the Companions.<br />

Allah's Messenger (;Ii) said: "Do not abuse my Companions, for<br />

if any one of you spent gold equal to (mountain) Uhud, it would not<br />
