$iijis errors in Understanding the Qur'an<br />

.)iifts understood the Qur'an according to their wrong comprehension.<br />

For example, they understood the previous verse to mean that<br />

Sulayman ('alayhis-saldm) slaughtered the horses, when in fact he wiped<br />

with his hand on them and said: "(I have dedicated) you for Allah's<br />

cause."<br />

Abii Ja'far al-Darraj said: I searched my teacher's container and<br />

found four dirhams in it. I was surprised because I knew that he had<br />

nothing to eat the night before, I thought he would have used the<br />

dirham's to buy food. So I inquired about the four dirhams. He said:<br />

<strong>The</strong>y are all I have gained in this world. I wanted for them to be<br />

buried with me, so on Judgment day I would return them to Allah<br />

and say: "This is all You have given me during my life."<br />

Abii Ja'far al-l:laddad worked for twenty years for one dindra day.<br />

He used to donate the dindrto the poor. He used to fast and beg for<br />

food to break his fast.<br />

If this man knew that begging was not permissible for someone<br />

who can earn a living, he would not have begged. Where is his dignity?!<br />

'Abdullah lbn 'Umar (ra#yA//ahu 'anhuma} said that Allah's Messenger<br />

(;i) said: "A man keeps on begging until he comes on the<br />

Day of Judgment without any flesh on his face."263<br />

Zubayr lbn al-'Awam (rat/fyAl/dhu 'anhu) said that Allah's Messenger<br />

(;i) said: "It is better for one of you to take a rope (and cut) and<br />
