Discussion: The inadequate perception <strong>of</strong> <strong>sport</strong> in Turkey hinders the increase <strong>of</strong> <strong>sport</strong> sponsorship support. In order to develop and<br />

determine the status <strong>of</strong> <strong>sport</strong> sponsorship <strong>of</strong> individual athletes and <strong>sport</strong> clubs in Turkey, redaction <strong>of</strong> variance in <strong>sport</strong> sponsorship<br />

procedures and increase <strong>of</strong> the effectiveness <strong>of</strong> <strong>sport</strong> sponsorship legal and administrative steps covering all <strong>sport</strong> activities should be<br />

taken.<br />

THE DETERMINATION OF DEMOGRPHIC CHARACTERISTICS OF HANDBALL PLAYERS IN FIRST DIVISION<br />

Introduction: The marketing <strong>of</strong> different <strong>sport</strong> branches need not only the success <strong>of</strong> the given <strong>sport</strong>, but also the number <strong>of</strong> spectators<br />

and the demographic characteristics <strong>of</strong> the participants. It can be said that the activities that are launched for finding sponsors are not<br />

enough in Turkey. The determination <strong>of</strong> demographic characteristics <strong>of</strong> Handball players in first division and to help bringing together the<br />

elite handball players with sponsors.<br />

Method: A questionnaire has been prepared for gathering information on the demographic characteristics <strong>of</strong> the handball players<br />

(n=100, team n=7) in first division. The population <strong>of</strong> the current study is the total number <strong>of</strong> teams playing in the first division <strong>of</strong> Turkish<br />

Handball Federation during the session <strong>of</strong> 2007-2008.<br />

Results: The analysis <strong>of</strong> the findings <strong>of</strong> the current study has shown that the players <strong>of</strong> Turkish Mans First handball division were 35,1<br />

percent <strong>of</strong> them having the age range <strong>of</strong> 24-26, 81,6 percent <strong>of</strong> them were single, 77,3 percent <strong>of</strong> them were having undergraduate<br />

degrees, 65 percent <strong>of</strong> them had more than 2000 TL wages, 64,9 percent <strong>of</strong> them were living in a city centre, 85 percent <strong>of</strong> them were<br />

not having more than 2 sisters and/or brothers, their parents were having degrees higher than secondary schools and working as a<br />

governmental stuff and having middle class standards (38 percent <strong>of</strong> them having 1.500 TL or more income rates) in the Turkish standards.<br />

Besides, 44 percent <strong>of</strong> the players were team members <strong>of</strong> 1-3 years, 52,5 percent <strong>of</strong> them were chosen as handball players by<br />

their PE teachers. 25,8 percent <strong>of</strong> players choose reading books, 25.8 percent <strong>of</strong> them surfing in internet, 22,6 percent <strong>of</strong> them prefer<br />

listening music and 15,4 percent <strong>of</strong> them join activities like cinema/theater/concert etc. in their spare times.<br />

Discussion: It can be concluded that the findings <strong>of</strong> the current study has shown that most <strong>of</strong> players <strong>of</strong> the Turkish Mans First handball<br />

division are young and single, having undergraduate degrees, reaching the level <strong>of</strong> middle class income rates in Turkey and coming<br />

from middle class families. It can be also said that most <strong>of</strong> them are city-dwellers and enjoy reading, listening music, dealing with computer<br />

and having high cultural level. The findings <strong>of</strong> the current study should be shared with Turkish Handball Federation for reaching to<br />

the potential sponsors.<br />

Introduction:The purpose <strong>of</strong> this study was to explore the contribution <strong>of</strong> the nature <strong>sport</strong> activities on the social integration <strong>of</strong> the university<br />

students.<br />

Methodology:The population <strong>of</strong> the research was composed <strong>of</strong> subjects who were university students and also members <strong>of</strong> the nature<br />

<strong>sport</strong>s communities in the universities <strong>of</strong> Ankara. The sample <strong>of</strong> the research was consisted <strong>of</strong> 587 (male 341,female 246) university<br />

students. Social Integration in Sports Scale was used as the data collection instrument, which is composed <strong>of</strong> 7 sub-scales (personal<br />

development, 0.80; socialization, 0.82; physical benefit, 0.80; social integrity, 0.82; psychologic development, 0.71; moral development,<br />

0.75; and emotional development, 0.55) and 32 items (Yılmaz, Karli, &Yetim, 2006). The data collection instrument was comprised <strong>of</strong> two<br />

main sections. In the first section, there were questions seeking demographic information (age, gender, residence place, involvement<br />

frequency to the nature <strong>sport</strong> activities) from the subjects, and the second section was composed <strong>of</strong> SISS items.<br />

Statistical Analysis: To analyze the data, ANOVA was used to define social integration level differences <strong>of</strong> subjects according to their<br />

demographic characteristics such as; gender, residence place, meeting frequency with friends and involving frequency to the activities.<br />

To identify the difference causing group as the result <strong>of</strong> ANOVA, Tukey HSD Test was conducted. To display if any difference occurred in<br />

the social integration levels <strong>of</strong> subjects according to their gender t-test was conducted. In the statistical analysis <strong>of</strong> the data .05 significance<br />

level was taken into consideration.<br />

Results: There was significant difference in subjects opinions about the effect <strong>of</strong> nature <strong>sport</strong>s on individual development [F(3-<br />

583)=1,610;P>,05] and socialization [F(3-583)=2,844;P
