In sequence by age-group, 11-12 and 13-14 years old, respectively, the following trends were noted: Chronological age (12.0, 14.2) height<br />

(147.9, 166.9); weight (42.9, 59.8); arm spam (147.5, 171.5); BMI (19.43, 21.24); bicristal/biacromial ratio (72.8, 73.1); sitting height/height<br />

ratio (51.0, 50.6) and adiposity (42.0, 33.4). In both somatotypes mesomorphism is the most representative category (3.4-4.7-2.9, 2.3-4.4-<br />

3.3). However the 11-12 years-old group has a higher value for endomorphism and the 13-14 age-group a higher value for ectomorphism.<br />

Looking at the mean values for the maturational indicators, the maturity <strong>of</strong>fset (-2.02, 0.15) shows that the 13-14 years-old players<br />

have already cross the peak height velocity, being this difference in the maturity process corroborated by the %PAH (84.9, 91.6).<br />

Malina et al., 2004 found similar results for height and weight in young soccer players for different field positions (defense, midfield and<br />

forward). This suggests that, at these ages, the morphological pr<strong>of</strong>ile <strong>of</strong> young soccer goalkeeper is not different from that shown by<br />

other players in different positions. However more studies regarding the characterization <strong>of</strong> young soccer goalkeepers using a more<br />

extensive pool <strong>of</strong> variables are needed.<br />

HEMOGLOBIN AND HEMATOCRIT VALUES DUE TO TWO DIFFERENT MEASUREMENT SYSTEMS<br />

Introduction: The measurement <strong>of</strong> hemoglobin (Hb) and hematocit (Hc) is <strong>of</strong> great interest to exercise <strong>science</strong> as well as in high performance<br />

<strong>sport</strong>. Especially the effect <strong>of</strong> high altitude training is presented trough Hb and Hc measurement. High Hb concentrations measured<br />

in athletes during competitions can have pr<strong>of</strong>ound consequences to them. From this point, the measurement <strong>of</strong> hematological parameters<br />

needs to be at high quality. But unfortunately it is not always possible to use the same devices to control these parameters or to<br />

document time series. The aim <strong>of</strong> the study was to detect inter-device variability in the measurement <strong>of</strong> Hb and Hc.<br />

Methods: For this, blood samples <strong>of</strong> 95 athletes where measured with two different devices: KX-21N, Sysmex (A), Germany and ABX<br />

Micros 60 (B) from Horiba, France. The results were classified (device A as reference method) and absolute value differences were demonstrated.<br />

Mean differences <strong>of</strong> Hb and Hc classes were statistically calculated.<br />

Results: With device A the lowest Hb <strong>of</strong> 11.2 g/dl and highest <strong>of</strong> 17.0 g/dl was measured. The range from device B ranged from 10.8 g/dl<br />

to 15.3 g/dl. The average <strong>of</strong> the value differences is 0.6 g/dl with a standard deviation <strong>of</strong> 0.6 g/dl. For example Hb (g/dl) <strong>of</strong> 15.6 (A) vs.<br />

13.4 (B) an 17.0 (A) vs. 14.9 (B) were found. Although the correlation <strong>of</strong> the two devices is high (r=0.88) significant statistical differences in all<br />
