2 having some issues with something in their backyard that
3 directly affects their quality of life.
4 Why? Because we love our neighborhood,
5 because we love Santa Barbara, we love Montecito. It's
6 a great place to live. We see a lot of Europeans in
7 Santa Barbara. Why do they come here? Because it's
8 unique. We don't have the strip malls. We don't have
9 the drive-throughs. We don't have all this ugliness.
10 Why? Because intelligent, tasteful people
11 such as yourselves have made good decisions over the
12 years to preserve this very special place. We don't
13 need to roll the clock back. We can't do that. We have
14 to move forward into the future and do the things that
15 make the most sense.
16 The people that seem to be most interested in
17 this project, there are commercial reasons for it. Hey,
18 we all need to make a living, but geography is all about
19 where something fits and what fits in that space.
20 So I urge you in your -- and I want to say
21 I've been so delighted to be here today. It's been so
22 much fun. Really I've enjoyed it. I took a day off
23 from work, and really it's like a movie. I love it, and
24 some of the characters that I've heard, it's better than
25 a movie.
