1 Montecitans know that the real security of
2 our little semirural jewel of a residential village is
3 in our sacrosanct community plan, our Bible. And for
4 this plan it stands between us and Orange
5 County-ization.
6 But our No. 1 concern -- and this is my
7 concern -- about any project is that a precedent will be
8 set, a precedent which lays our residential village
9 opened to unbridle development by others.
10 And if all these modifications, FAR, and the
11 variances are granted, then a precedent will have been
12 set, and the Montecito plan will be diluted and
13 eviscerated.
14 Your charge as the policy-making Montecito
15 Planning Commission is to protect and preserve this
16 community plan. Do you really want your legacy to be
17 that on your watch as guardians of our gate our
18 sacrosanct community plan was rendered helpless? I hope
19 not.
20 But there is still a way to cut through this
21 gordian knot. For us it is still a chance to have a
22 Caruso-built Miramar Project, and that's what we all
23 really want.
