Personnel and children of the summer camps for
children. Dr. Urban Hjarno, head physician of
schools, in his article deals with some problems
of the summer camps for children. He omphasises
that the camps should be organised in such a
manner that each child would bo cared for so well
that we would liko to see our own children there.
Ho oonsiders that all those who work in a camp
should havo good health and should be suitable
for the work and ablo to look after children of the
ages in question. Other mattors dealt with are
whether we should have separato oamps for boys
and girls or mixed camps and whether the personnel
should consist of men only, women only
or both mon and womon. Page 279.
Local Oovernmenl housing allowances. Owing
to the new legislation, which entered into forco
on January 1, 1054 the old division into housing
price groups lias coased to operate. Simultaneously
the State housing allowances and tho special
(looal government) housing allowances ceased to
exist. Tho district oounoils wore instead in general
allowed to themselves dotermino the extent of tho
now local govornmont housing allowances.
The Issue in Brief
From an investigation, here reported by Âke
Kjellström, chief actuary, it appears, inter alia,
that of the 1 014 councils investigated 882 elected
to pay a general allowance to all pensioners irrespective
of the housing cost, 21 councils connected
the allowance in its entirety to the housing cost
and 111 councils practised a combination of both
the named alternatives by allowing a part of the
allowance to be paid in general to all, irrespective
of the housing cost, and a part to bo connected
to it. Page 285.
Food distribution to elderly people. A good many
elderly people in some of the towrst of central
Sweden receive valuable support in obtaining
ready-made food.
Margareta Nordström, consultant, in this article
explains how the distribution of food has been
organised in Uppsala, Jönköping and Uddevalla.
