Aliens in Sweden as at the 1st January 1954. It
appears from this survey, among other thing»,
that at the »aid date the number of aliens reported
at being employed in Sweden was 114 074, of
whom 07 350 were men and 46 724 were women.
Of those reported as having employment the largest
group were Finns (36 173 persons).
The statistics of foreign tourists — except for
Scandinavians — show, in comparison with the
corresponding nationalities in 1952, an increase
of 1.9 % in the sum total of tourists entering the
country, while the total time spent in Sweden
increased by 9.2 %. Page 380.
Building activities in certain cities and urban
districts during the. 1st qr. of 1954. The number of
housing units ready for occupation during the first
quarter of 1954 in the 53 towns investigated —•
those towns which at the beginning of 1944 had

more than 10 000 inhabitants — was approximately
the same a» in the corresponding quarter of 1953
but considerably lower than that for the last
quarter of the latter year.
A comparison with the first quarter of 1953 as
between different groups of municipalities shows
that there was practically no change in the number
of housing units ready for occupation in towns of
more than 30 000 inhabitants and in towns of
10 000—30 000 inhabitant«. In towns of less than
10 000 inhabitants the number of housing units
ready for occupation has increased by 25 °„ and
that in urban districts has gone down bv 26 "„.
