Maria Molodchik and Anna Bykova Let us now turn to VAIC and its components for our sample. According to <strong>the</strong> established approach to <strong>the</strong> competitiveness <strong>the</strong>ory and intellectual capital concept, <strong>the</strong> higher intellectual capital efficiency degree is, <strong>the</strong> more competitive and successful is a company, as measured by total labour productivity, ROE, pr<strong>of</strong>itability and o<strong>the</strong>r measures. 5. Results <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> models’ estimation As mentioned earlier, <strong>the</strong> interest in <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> intellectual capital emerged due to <strong>the</strong>ir assumed ability to stimulate <strong>the</strong> value creation. Never<strong>the</strong>less, empirical research <strong>of</strong>fers contradictory results that, on occasions, calls into question <strong>the</strong> statements made in <strong>the</strong> papers that study this link. It should be made clear that we also used <strong>the</strong> following variables among <strong>the</strong> measures for value creation: sales growth, pr<strong>of</strong>itability and return on equity (ROE), none <strong>of</strong> which showed any significant results for our sample <strong>of</strong> companies. Only <strong>the</strong> total labour productivity (measured by value added) can be regarded as a dependent variable (or traditional indicator) in our sample. There is no statistically significant correlation existing between <strong>the</strong> independent variables. To test Hypo<strong>the</strong>sis 1 we have constructed <strong>the</strong> following equation impact on <strong>the</strong> company’s productivity in <strong>the</strong> region: Y = α + α1VAIC+ α2Capex+ α3R&D+ α4Size+ α5Industry + ξ (1) , where dependent variable represents <strong>the</strong> company’s competitiveness and is measured by total labour productivity. OLS method is used for regression equation coefficient estimation. In case <strong>of</strong> Hypo<strong>the</strong>sis 1 confirmation, <strong>the</strong> variables reflecting intellectual capital efficiency, need to be statistically significant and have <strong>the</strong> positive sign. The results <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> regression analyses are shown in Table 3.
