An artist, has studied at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem,
and at the Film Department of the Tel Aviv University. She teaches at the Haifa
University and at the Avni Institute of Art and Design. She has received a number
of prizes and scholarships, among them the Anselm Kiefer prize. Her work has been
shown internationally at various exhibitions and venues, including the Biennale
of Sidney; Israel Museum, Centre Pompidou, Paris; Art in General, New York;
Tel-Aviv Museum, Toronto; and Istanbul Biennial, Berlin Biennial (2010)
and Manifesta in 2009 together with Maayan Amir she initiated the Exterritory project.
Artystka i niezależna kuratorka. Doktorantka interdyscyplinarnych studiów
w zakresie sztuki na Uniwersytecie Telawiwskim. Wykłada na studiach kuratorskich
w Sapir Academic College. Zredagowała książkę o izraelskiej kinematografii
dokumentalnej, która ukazała się w 2008 roku. Była kuratorem licznych
wystaw w wielu miejscach. Jej prace wystawiane są na międzynarodowych
ekspozycjach, takich jak Sidney Biennale (2006) oraz w centrach wystawienniczych,
np. Centre Pompidou (Paryż), Art in General (Nowy Jork), TPW (Toronto)
Istanbul Biennale (2009), Berlin Biennial (2010). W 2009 roku, wraz z Ruti Selą,
zainicjowała projekt Exterritory.

Cykl Beyond Guilt (Poza Poczuciem Winy) zajmuje się kwestią podważania relacji
sił pomiędzy fotografem a fotografowanym, mężczyzną a kobietą, obszarem
publicznym a sferą prywatną, przedmiotem a podmiotem. Jako reżyserki
filmu Sela i Amir biorą aktywny udział w wydarzeniu. Z jednej strony uwodzą
respondentów, z drugiej zaś oddają w ich ręce kamerę, w ramach wcześniej
wspomnianego podważania układu sił pomiędzy fotografującym i jego obiektem.
Wybór knajpy, gdzie chodzi się na podryw lub pokoju hotelowego jako scenografii,
ma reprezentować półświatek miasta, ze swym językiem i symboliką.
Szybkie spotkanie przed kamerą przywodzi na myśl efemeryczny charakter
związków intymnych, lecz prace te są przede wszystkim aluzją do wpływu
wywieranego przez okupację, terror i armię jako elementów składowych
izraelskiej tożsamości nawet w najbardziej osobistych sytuacjach. Tożsamość
płciowa i tożsamość militarno-polityczna zdają się nierozerwalnie ze sobą splatać.
The series Beyond Guilt addresses the undermining of the power relation
between photographer and photographed, men and women, the public domain
and the private sphere, object and subject. As the film’s directors, Sela and Amir
take an active part in the occurrence. They seduce the interviewees on the one
hand, and turn the camera over to them, on the other, as part of the aforesaid
undermining of power relations between photographer and subject.
The choice of pick-up bar services or hotel room as shooting locations strives
to represent an underworld with its language and signifiers.
The quick encounter before the camera calls to mind the ephemeral nature
of intimate relations, but most of all the works allude to the influences
of the occupation, terror and army as constitutors of an Israeli identity even
in the most private moments, The sexual identity and the military-political
identity seem intertwined inseparably.
An artist and independent curator. She is currently studying towards PhD at the
interdisciplinary art studies at Tel-Aviv University. She is teaching curatorial studies
at Sapir Academic College. She edited a book about Israeli documentary cinema which
was published on 2008. She had curated many exhibitions in different venues. Her works
are shown internationally in exhibitions such as the Sidney Biennale (2006) and venues such
as Centre Pompidou (Paris), Art in General (NY), TPW (Toronto) Istanbul Biennale (2009)
Berlin Biennial (2010). in 2009 together with Ruti Sela she initiated the Exterritory project.
