Instalacja Perversion of Signs (Perwersja znaków) stanowi piramidę multimedialną
składającą się z 84 płaskich monitorów. Na każdym ekranie widzimy usta i język
wylizujące i połykające serię piktogramów, logotypów, ideogramów i symboli
wykonanych z kolorowego lukru. Artysta wybrał około 90 rożnych znaków,
które można podzielić na dwie kategorie:
1. Znaki metahistoryczne, takie jak krzyż (chrześcijaństwo) lub serce (miłość),
które można odnaleźć, sytuując się poza krótkotrwałymi lub średnioterminowymi
kontekstami społecznymi i historycznymi.
2. Znaki, które należą do określonych kontekstów politycznych, ekonomicznych
czy historycznych, na przykład symbol Banku Światowego, internetu, Euro
oraz odmiennych ideologii.
Instalacja koncentruje się na zlizywaniu i pożeraniu „znaczeń”, reprezentowanych
przez symbole i znaki powszechnie zrozumiałe i rozpoznawalne przez każdego
bez względu na narodowość, wykształcenie czy klasę społeczną.
Instalacja Power/Powerlessness (Siła/Bezsilność) stworzona przez Ciervo specjalnie
na Biennale w Poznaniu odnosi do kwestii takich, jak kapitalizm, dezintegracja,
państwa narodowe, tożsamość, wolność, totalitaryzm, siła, władza, wypaczenie,
walka, transgresja, wyzwolenie.

The installation Perversion of Signs is a multimedia pyramid consisting of 84 flat screen
monitors. On each screen you can see a mouth and a tongue licking off and swallowing
a series of pictograms, logos, ideograms and symbols made out of coloured icing sugar.
The artist has chosen approximately 90 different signs, which can be divided into two
categories:
1. Meta historical signs such as a cross (Christianity) or a heart (Love) which can
be found standing outside short-term or medium-term social and historical contexts.
2. Signs, which belong to a certain political, economical or historical context, for example
the symbol for World Bank, the Internet, the Euro, various ideologies and so on.
The basic message of the installation centres on the licking and devouring of “meanings”,
represented by symbols and signs easily understood and identified by everyone,
regardless of their nationality, social or educational background.
The installation Power/Powerlessness, newly developed by Ciervo for the Biennale Poznan
addresses issues such as capitalism, the disintegration of the nation-states, identity,
freedom, totalitarianism, power, authority, perversion, subversion, transgression
and liberation.
