Mapa Świata (The Map of the World) Ilji Trushevskyego złowieszczo przypomina,
że ocena historii może zostać zdewaluowana, a wraz z nią wszystkie rzeczy,
które uznajemy za ważne okażą się w pamięci naszych potomków bezwartościowe.
Mapa Świata Trushevskyego, stworzona została na podstawie kiedyś opublikowanej
przez wydział wojskowy w erze sowieckiej, przedstawia kraj ze stolicą w Moskwie,
który nazywa siebie ZSSR oraz bazy wojskowe sojuszników i wrogów rozrzucone
po całym świecie, które pojawiają się zanim widz (który częściowo zapomniał
już kształt dawnych granic) zdąży je zapamiętać. Następnie przy rogu ekranu
pojawia się ledwie widoczna mucha. Mija sekunda, dwie, trzy… po kilku chwilach
roje much nadymają kontury krajów znajdujących się na mapie.
Ta medialna instalacja stanowi zjadliwą i lakoniczną metaforę biegu historii,
który bezlitośnie niszczy wszelkie granice, stolice czy sojusze.

Ilya Trushevsky’s The Map of the World is an ominous reminder that history may
be reappraised with all things we find unshakable suddenly condemned as unworthy
of our descendants’ memory. Trushevsky’s map of the world, once published
by the military department in the Soviet era – where the state with its capital in Moscow
still calls itself the U.S.S.R., and allies’ and enemies’ military bases are scattered all over
the world – appears before the viewer (who has since half forgotten the outline of the
old border) for as many seconds as is necessary to remember. Then, a scarcely noticeable
fly appears in a corner of the screen. It is followed by a second, then a third...
In a few moments, swarms of flies are bloating out the contours of the countries
on the map. This media installation is a scathing and laconic metaphor of the work
of history that ruthlessly destroys any border, capital or alignment of forces.
