LOST IN TIME, LOST IN SPACE
ZAGUBIONY W CZASIE, ZAGUBIONY W PRZESTRZENI
“The morning colors the walls of Ancient Kremlin with the tender light“
– then follow the text. Immediately, your nose feels May greenery,
and morning freshness goes into your face. Schoolchildren in uniforms
go into standard school buildings. Blue-and-black-and-brown fledglings
and birds of white-and-brown blocks of nests. Soviet movies. Sunnyside
up eggs on the frying pan. On the table. Even in the ABC book.
The Star of Ilych (Lenin). Grandpa Lenin. Grandpa Lenin ate an inkwell.
Manyasha has a chocolate bar in her thread-ball. The code is known
to my generation. The generation born in the non-existing country,
in the country that is no more. This generation used to write
in the notebooks with the Soviet Anthem printed on the back cover;
the generation that still remember themselves salivating at the sight
of the chewing gum made in the GDR. This generation grew up behind
the Iron Curtain; and the Iron Curtain sank into oblivion with the happy
Soviet childhood. Along with adolescent acne came Democracy
and Perestroika.
The project Lost In Time, Lost In Space – one of the projects
of the author’s program “Less Than 36.6.” All participating artists
are no more than 36 and half years old, and in case of the Russian
Mentality and Russian Past belong to our Lost Generation. The Lost
Generation in this case does not mean the generation of The Great
War that Gertrude Stein was talking about, or the unaccounted victims
of War, but the unaccounted victims of the Disintegration Period.
In the country with amoeba-like changing borders there
”Poranne kolory ścian pradawnego Kremla z delikatną poświatą” – dalej
słuchaj tekstu. Twój zmysł powonienia natychmiast poczuje majową zieleń
i poranną świeżość otaczającą twarz. Uczniowie w mundurkach idą
w kierunku zwykłych budynków szkoły. Niebiesko-czarno-brązowe pisklęta
i ptaki w białobrązowych gniazdach. Sowieckie filmy. Smażące się na patelni
jajka. Na stole. Nawet w elementarzu. Gwiazda Lenina. Dziadek Lenin.
Dziadek Lenin zjadł kałamarz. Maniasza ma tabliczkę czekolady ukrytą
w motku włóczki. Ten kod jest znany mojemu pokoleniu. Pokoleniu
urodzonemu w nieistniejącym kraju, w kraju, którego już nie ma.
To pokolenie pisało w zeszytach, na których okładkach drukowano sowiecki
hymn, pokolenie, które pamięta, jak śliniło się na widok gum do żucia
wyprodukowanych w NRD. To pokolenie dorastało za Żelazną Kurtyną;
a Żelazna Kurtyna poszła w zapomnienie wraz z szczęśliwym sowieckim
dzieciństwem. Wraz z dorosłością nadeszła demokracja i Pierestrojka.
Zagubiony w czasie, zagubiony w przestrzeni jest jednym z autorskich
projektów należących do programu „Mniej niż 36.6”. Wiek uczestniczących
w nim artystów nie przekroczył 36 lat i 6 miesięcy i zgodnie z przekonaniem
panującym w Rosji należą oni do Straconego Pokolenia. Stracone Pokolenie
