Car parking conflict given this is the busiest shopping day of the week;
The provision of shade would be an issue in the summer months and lack of natural
shade in the locations identified; and
If held along Sudbury Road, there would be increased implications with regard to traffic
and bus services from road closure.
Sunday 10.00am to 2.00pm
Sunday Markets could provide the following benefits:-
Could attract patrons from sport activities at the Herb Graham Recreation Centre;
Less likely to have anti-social behaviour issues in the daylight hours;
If held along Sudbury Road, road closures would cause less impact to traffic and bus
services (prior to Sunday Trading commencing at 11.00am) than if held on a Saturday;
and
This is the preferred day for the Public Transport Authority.
The disadvantages of a Sunday Market would be:-
With the implementation of Sunday Trading, there would be direct competition with
local retailers and car parking from 11.00am onwards;
This time could conflict with the attendance of church; and
The provision of shade would be an issue given the summer months and lack of
natural shade in the locations identified.
Market Management
The City has not made provision to support or promote markets at Mirrabooka in the
2012/2013 budget.
The City has been approached by the Nollamara RSL and Rotary Club of Morley. Both are
experienced in the successful establishment of markets and are likely to respond to a
potential call for expressions of interest for such a project.
It is proposed that an Expression of Interest be submitted by parties wishing to establish
markets in Mirrabooka.
In order to test the market, the City could call for expressions of interest in establishing and
operating a market in Mirrabooka. The research contained in this reports suggests a Friday
evening culturally themed market would have the best opportunity of success.
