The above research indicates that a Friday night, culturally themed market located at the
Town Square would be the preferred format for the establishment of a community market in
Mirrabooka given key stakeholder preference, community feedback and ‘fit for purpose’
measure.
The assessment of identified sites indicates that the Town Square is the best location for the
establishment of markets; this site however requires an amendment to the Town Planning
Scheme No.3 which is currently underway. It is proposed to postpone the establishment of a
market until the 2013/2014 summer period to allow for the amendment to permit the use of
markets on this site to be completed.
The City has already received interest from two (2) not-for-profit groups capable of
establishing markets in Mirrabooka. Expressions of Interests could be called following the
approval of the required rezoning to seek proponents to establish, operate and manage the
markets using the criteria outlined above.
Additional resources to facilitate this proposal would be requested at 2012/2013 Budget
Review and should Council support this funding request then an Expression of Interest
process would be commenced with the aim of establishing a community market in
Mirrabooka for the 2013/2014 summer period.
