NOTES TO THE TRAINER<br />
PURPOSE<br />
This training manual is part of the Comprehensive Reproductive Health and Family Planning<br />
Training Curriculum <strong>for</strong> service providers. It is designed to prepare participants to provide<br />
quality <strong>reproductive</strong> <strong>health</strong> <strong>services</strong> to <strong>adolescents</strong>. It is to be used to train physicians,<br />
nurses, counselors, and midwives. Parts of the module may be adapted <strong>for</strong> use with<br />
community-based workers or auxiliary workers.<br />
All of the modules in the curriculum are designed to actively involve participants in the<br />
learning process. Sessions include simulation skills practice; discussions; case studies; role<br />
plays; and using objective knowledge, attitude, and skills checklists.<br />
DESIGN<br />
The comprehensive training curriculum consists of 16 modules:<br />

Included in each module is a set of knowledge assessment questions, Competency-Based<br />
Training (CBT) skills checklists, trainer resources, participant materials, training evaluation<br />
tools, and a bibliography.<br />
PARTICIPANT SELECTION<br />
This module is meant <strong>for</strong> mid-level providers of family planning <strong>services</strong> (nurses, nurse<br />
midwives, nurse assistants, physicians, counselors, and others) who already have some<br />
skills and training in <strong>reproductive</strong> <strong>health</strong> but need training on how to provide youth-friendly<br />
<strong>services</strong>. Clinic and program managers also need to have a clear idea of the goals,<br />
challenges, and resource requirements of a youth-friendly program so that they will be<br />
supportive and appreciative of provider ef<strong>for</strong>ts. For this reason, inclusion of a member of<br />
management staff, either in the training itself or in a separate sensitization, is highly<br />
