Overview<br />

• Across <strong>London</strong> as a whole, private transport mode shares fell by 6 percentage<br />

po<strong>in</strong>ts both among men and women over the 10-year period. The changes <strong>in</strong><br />

other modes, however, differed by gender. In particular, cycle mode share<br />

among men <strong>in</strong>creased by more than 2 percentage po<strong>in</strong>ts, while among women<br />

the <strong>in</strong>crease was of less than half a percentage po<strong>in</strong>t. Walk mode share fell by 1<br />

percentage po<strong>in</strong>t among men and was unchanged among women, while women<br />

saw an <strong>in</strong>crease <strong>in</strong> public transport mode share of 6 percentage po<strong>in</strong>ts – equal to<br />

the fall <strong>in</strong> private transport mode share – <strong>in</strong> comparison to a 5 percentage po<strong>in</strong>t<br />

<strong>in</strong>crease among men.<br />

• While all age groups had lower car driver trips rates <strong>in</strong> 2014/15 than <strong>in</strong> 2005/06,<br />

the reductions were larger among younger age groups.<br />

network and mak<strong>in</strong>g the roads safer, especially for more vulnerable road users.<br />

We are responsible for the <strong>London</strong> Underground, <strong>London</strong> Buses, the Docklands<br />

Light Railway, <strong>London</strong> Overground, <strong>London</strong> Traml<strong>in</strong>k, <strong>London</strong> River Services, Dial-a-<br />

Ride, Victoria Coach Station, Santander Cycles and the Emirates Air L<strong>in</strong>e. We<br />

regulate taxis and the private hire trade, operate the Congestion Charg<strong>in</strong>g scheme,<br />

manage the 580km red route network of <strong>London</strong>’s strategic roads, and operate<br />

6,000 traffic signals.<br />
