2.5 Mode shares <strong>in</strong> <strong>London</strong><br />
Journey stage based mode shares<br />
In 2014, 45 per cent of journey stages <strong>in</strong> <strong>London</strong> were made by public<br />
transport, compared with 32 per cent by private transport. This reflects and<br />
cont<strong>in</strong>ues a now well-established trend of a net shift <strong>in</strong> <strong>London</strong> away from<br />
private motorised transport to the public transport modes. S<strong>in</strong>ce 2000 the<br />
public transport mode share has <strong>in</strong>creased by 11.0 percentage po<strong>in</strong>ts. Over the<br />
term of the current MTS s<strong>in</strong>ce 2008 the <strong>in</strong>crease has been 2.9 per cent. In the<br />
latest year, the public transport mode share <strong>in</strong>creased by a further 0.4<br />
percentage po<strong>in</strong>ts while the private transport mode share fell by a<br />
correspond<strong>in</strong>g 0.4 percentage po<strong>in</strong>ts, despite a small absolute growth <strong>in</strong> private<br />
transport volumes. Cycl<strong>in</strong>g and walk<strong>in</strong>g mode shares rema<strong>in</strong>ed at around 2 and<br />
21 per cent respectively.<br />
