Figures 11.37 and 11.38 show trip purpose shares by orig<strong>in</strong> and dest<strong>in</strong>ation. On<br />

weekdays, trips to central <strong>London</strong> are ma<strong>in</strong>ly for work purposes – 52 per cent of all<br />

trips between central and <strong>in</strong>ner and 70 per cent of all trips between central and<br />

outer. Trips between other areas of <strong>London</strong> are more evenly split between work<br />

and non-work purposes, with only 17 per cent of weekday trips <strong>in</strong> outer <strong>London</strong><br />

be<strong>in</strong>g for work.<br />

At the weekend, shopp<strong>in</strong>g and particularly leisure trips dom<strong>in</strong>ate, even for trips to<br />

central <strong>London</strong>. Some 70 per cent of all trips between central and outer <strong>London</strong> are<br />

for shopp<strong>in</strong>g or leisure purposes at the weekend. However, there is still a large<br />

number of work related trips tak<strong>in</strong>g place at the weekend – more than 1 <strong>in</strong> 5 trips<br />

between central and outer <strong>London</strong> are work-related.<br />
