12. Spotlight: The transport challenge of <strong>London</strong>’s future growth<br />

Walk<strong>in</strong>g is projected to grow <strong>in</strong> l<strong>in</strong>e with population change and cycl<strong>in</strong>g is expected<br />

to cont<strong>in</strong>ue to grow strongly to meet the Mayor’s cycl<strong>in</strong>g target <strong>in</strong> 2026. This<br />

growth <strong>in</strong> cycl<strong>in</strong>g will also help mitigate some of the <strong>in</strong>crease <strong>in</strong> public transport<br />

demand and crowd<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

<strong>in</strong>terim higher employment forecast which will put even more pressure on the<br />

transport system. The location of most of the new jobs <strong>in</strong> areas highly connected<br />

by public transport means that the impact will be focused particularly on public<br />
