Cycle flows on major roads <strong>in</strong> <strong>London</strong><br />

TfL monitors levels of cycl<strong>in</strong>g on the TLRN major road network through data<br />

collected by automatic cycle counters. Figure 3.10 shows the data as an <strong>in</strong>dex with<br />

a base of March 2000, calculated as the average daily cycle flows with<strong>in</strong> each fourweek<br />

report<strong>in</strong>g period.<br />

Between 2000/01 and 2014/15, the <strong>in</strong>dex <strong>in</strong>creased by 230 per cent overall.<br />

Follow<strong>in</strong>g a 7 per cent <strong>in</strong>crease between 2012/13 and 2013/14 the <strong>in</strong>dex <strong>in</strong>creased<br />

by a further 11.5 per cent <strong>in</strong> 2014/15. The chart illustrates the seasonal variations <strong>in</strong><br />

cycl<strong>in</strong>g, with peaks and troughs <strong>in</strong> the series correspond<strong>in</strong>g with summer and the<br />

Christmas and New Year holidays respectively. Over the period s<strong>in</strong>ce 2008, the<br />

growth was 62.4 per cent.<br />
