This memoir was originally published in German as Aus der Hölle Minsk in das<br />

―Paradies‖ Theresienstadt, and was translated in<strong>to</strong> <strong>English</strong> by Bernard Ahrend. It<br />

describes Loewenstein‘s imprisonment in Terezin, including the deportation of Jews from<br />

the Protec<strong>to</strong>rate of Bohemia and Moravia <strong>to</strong> the camp, the role of the SS in the camp, the<br />

―self administration‖ of the Jewish elders, the treatment of children and the elderly, and<br />

the liberation of Terezin by the Red Army.<br />
