This collection contains four series: sub-series 1, Alphabetical Files 1919–1981,<br />

comprises the bulk, primarily records from 1940–1960; sub-series 2, Monty Jacobs‘<br />

International Files 1949–1973, consisting of files of the Press Direc<strong>to</strong>r and Executive<br />

Direc<strong>to</strong>r in the 1950s and 1960s; sub-series 3, Publications 1930–1974, consists of two<br />

boxes of publications (WJC and non-WJC); and sub-series 4, International Alphabetical<br />

Files—Correspondence and Clippings 1949–1981 on countries and regions (eighteen<br />

boxes). Within sub-series material is arranged primarily alphabetically by country,<br />

region, or organization, and within categories chronologically.<br />

This testimony relates <strong>to</strong> Rita Kerner Hil<strong>to</strong>n‘s childhood in Poland, her experiences in the<br />

Pabianice and Łódź ghet<strong>to</strong>s, the death of her grandfather, her deportations <strong>to</strong> Auschwitz<br />

and Bergen-Belsen, her experiences in the camps, her liberation, and her postwar family<br />

his<strong>to</strong>ry.<br />

This testimony describes John Kartal‘s early life in a small <strong>to</strong>wn near Budapest, Hungary,<br />

his experiences as a <strong>for</strong>ced laborer during the war, his life in hiding during the<br />

deportation of Hungarian Jews in 1944, his experiences living under Hungary‘s postwar<br />

communist government, and his emigration <strong>to</strong> the United States.<br />
