This record group consists of the personal archive of Dr. Robert M. W. Kempner, who<br />

was Deputy Chief Prosecu<strong>to</strong>r at the Nuremberg Subsequent Tribunals and Chief<br />

Prosecu<strong>to</strong>r of the Ministries Case (Case No. XI); was a consultant <strong>to</strong> the United States<br />

Government on German Police organization; had a private legal practice in Germany and<br />

in the United States, specializing in restitution claims and adoption cases; and wrote and<br />

lectured extensively on War Crimes Trials, the Third Reich, and on German politics. It<br />

contains correspondence, memoranda, research materials, interrogation and other reports,<br />

sound recordings, pho<strong>to</strong>graphs, and other materials relating <strong>to</strong> the career and life of<br />

Robert M. W. Kempner and <strong>to</strong> his preparation and research in connection with the<br />

Ministries Case. As of the publication of this edition of the <strong>Guide</strong>, processing of the<br />

collection has not been completed.<br />

from his Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, home and office, but also from his German law<br />

This collection contains records of ef<strong>for</strong>ts <strong>to</strong> restrict immigration, lists of the Jewish<br />

Immigration Officer at Cape Town, naturalization applications, pho<strong>to</strong>graphs of Jewish<br />

immigrants arriving in South Africa, and pho<strong>to</strong>graphs of the South African Jewish<br />

community assisting refugees. Topics also include anti-Jewish agitation in South Africa,<br />

and postwar <strong>Holocaust</strong> commemoration.<br />

Provenance: Source of acquisition is the South African Jewish Board of Deputies, the<br />

central representative institution of the Jewish community in South Africa.
