RG-10.125 --- The Ernst Heumann Collection<br />

This collection contains correspondence and financial reports concerning the publication<br />

of the newspaper Aufbau by the New World Club (also known as the German-Jewish<br />

Club), an organization of German Jewish emigrants in New York. Also included is a file<br />

concerning Aufbau advertising manager Hans Schleger. A May 1941 issue of<br />

International Science is included as well.<br />

Provenance: Ernst Heumann collected the papers of the New World Club while he was<br />

managing the finances of the organization.<br />

Biographical/his<strong>to</strong>rical note: Ernst Heumann helped found the New World Club in the<br />

1920s and served as its third president. The New World Club had interests in publishing<br />

and provided aid <strong>to</strong> German Jewish immigrants fleeing Germany. The New World Club<br />

published Aufbau and International Science.<br />

RG-68.087M --- Nathan Schwalb Papers/Hechalutz Office Geneva<br />

This collection contains records pertaining <strong>to</strong> Jewish aid and rescue activities during<br />

World War II. Nathan Schwalb-Dror (1908–2004) was a Labor Zionist and leader of the<br />

Hechalutz in wartime Geneva. Records feature correspondence with Hechalutz members<br />

in the Nazi-occupied terri<strong>to</strong>ries and with the Joint Distribution Committee, reports about<br />

the situation of Jews in various countries, reports about Auschwitz-Birkenau, Treblinka,<br />

and Westerbork, and miscellaneous internal records of Hechalutz headquarters. Holdings<br />

also include correspondence with individuals and aid organizations in the DP camps after<br />

the <strong>Holocaust</strong>; such as the ―Lloyd Auswanderungsbuero‖ in Poland, the Hashomer Hazair<br />

in Switzerland, the ―Gordonia group‖ in Bucharest, 1940–1945, the Kibbutz movement in<br />

Romania in 1940, and a spectrum of Jewish agencies in Switzerland. Other documents
