This diary recounts the experiences of Gabriel Mermall and his son, Tommy, during six<br />

months of hiding in a <strong>for</strong>est near the Carpathian Mountains. It also contains in<strong>for</strong>mation<br />

about Christians who aided Mermall and his son, the activities of partisans in Hungary,<br />

and the advance of the Soviet army at the end of World War II. Portions of the testimony<br />

are written in narrative <strong>for</strong>m and are intermingled with the diary entries.<br />

RG-02.011 ―Family Reunion‖ by Joseph Wachtel, 1985–1986<br />

Wachtel‘s testimony describes a reunion of several members of his family at the<br />

Transnistria concentration camp in the Mogilev Podolski area of Ukraine. Wachtel also<br />

discusses resistance, disease in the Transnistria camp, and mass burials.<br />

In this memoir, Sophie Machtinger discusses her experiences in the Łódź ghet<strong>to</strong>, her<br />

observations of the actions of Chaim Rumkowski, the liquidation of the Łódź ghet<strong>to</strong>, her<br />

family‘s deportation <strong>to</strong> Auschwitz, and her transport <strong>to</strong> Stutthof and Dresden.<br />
