This testimony describes the <strong>Holocaust</strong> experiences of William Eisen and members of his<br />

family, and relates the attempts of surviving family members <strong>to</strong> rebuild their lives after<br />

the war. The first part of the memoir portrays the persecution and killing of Polish Jews,<br />

including members of Eisen‘s family. Eisen experienced the Miechów ghet<strong>to</strong>; the Julag I<br />

and II, Kraków-Plaszów, Skarzysko-Kamienna, and Rakow (a.k.a. Rakov) concentration<br />

camps; and an unnamed subcamp of Buchenwald. The latter part of the memoir depicts<br />

Eisen‘s life inside the British displaced persons camp at Judenburg, Austria, and his<br />

immigration <strong>to</strong> the United States.<br />

from the <strong>Holocaust</strong> Resource <strong>Center</strong> in Buffalo, New York.<br />

Eva Rappart Edmands‘ testimony describes her family‘s emigration from Austria <strong>to</strong><br />

France after the Anschluss. The family lived in hiding during the German occupation of<br />

France.<br />

―Escape from Hitler‘s Clutches‖ is a diary that describes Theodore Diesenhouse‘s<br />

experiences in Nazi-occupied Poland. Disenhouse survived the <strong>Holocaust</strong> by passing as<br />

an ―Aryan.‖<br />
