RG-02.134 --- ―Escape from Yugoslavia‖ by Silvio Finci<br />

In his memoir, Silvio Finci describes his family‘s experiences in Yugoslavia. In<br />

particular, he discusses the family‘s flight from a small village near Sarajevo <strong>to</strong> the city<br />

of Mostar, how they survived during the Nazi occupation, their escape <strong>to</strong> Italy, and how<br />

they immigrated <strong>to</strong> a refugee camp in Fort Ontario, New York, and rebuilt their lives in<br />

the United States.<br />

Provenance: The author‘s granddaughter, Marilyn Ferguson, rewrote and retyped the<br />

memoir be<strong>for</strong>e its donation.<br />

The items in this collection document Georg Fingerhut‘s internment in Dachau, Sari<br />

Marmor‘s time in the Feldafing DP camp, the return of Fingerhut and his father <strong>to</strong><br />

Munich after the war, and the emigration of Marmor and Fingerhut <strong>to</strong> Canada. Also<br />

included are pictures of Jewish life in prewar Lithuania.<br />
