These papers contain in<strong>for</strong>mation about Seymour Krieger‘s involvement during 1945–<br />

1946 with the Office of the U.S. Chief of Counsel during the International Military<br />

Tribunal (IMT) at Nuremberg; Adolf Hitler‘s life; Krieger‘s military career; and the IMT<br />

in general. Also included are papers, a diary, correspondence, reports, articles,<br />

pho<strong>to</strong>graphs, and postcards.<br />

Provenance: The papers of Seymour Krieger became the possessions of Krieger‘s wife,<br />

Rita Krieger, after his death. The papers later came in<strong>to</strong> the care of Susan Becker, the<br />

executrix of Rita Krieger‘s estate.<br />

This record group contains various materials relating <strong>to</strong> the life and activities of Dr.<br />

Joseph Tenenbaum (1887–1961). Tenenbaum was active in the organization of the Anti-<br />

Nazi Joint Boycott Council of the American Jewish Congress and the Jewish Labor<br />

Committee in 1933, as well as several anti-Nazi and Jewish relief and rescue<br />

organizations. He also wrote books (e.g., Race and Reich), pamphlets (e.g., ―Can Hitler<br />

Be S<strong>to</strong>pped‖ [1938] and ―The Einsatzgruppen‖ [1955]), and magazine and newspaper<br />

articles. Subjects in the collection include American reaction <strong>to</strong> the persecution of the<br />

Jews in Europe be<strong>for</strong>e and during World War II; the activities of several Jewish<br />

organizations involved with relief and rescue (e.g., American Jewish Joint Distribution<br />

Committee, YIVO, American Jewish Committee, American Jewish Congress, American<br />

Zionist Federation, Federation of Polish Jews in America, Zionist Organization of<br />

America, World Jewish Congress, Workman‘s Circle, World Federation of Polish Jews,<br />

etc.); <strong>Holocaust</strong> commemorations; Jewish and <strong>Holocaust</strong> studies in schools; and the like.<br />

This collection contains correspondence concerning Richard Straus‘ assistance <strong>to</strong><br />

relatives in their attempts <strong>to</strong> receive restitution from the German government <strong>for</strong> property<br />

lost be<strong>for</strong>e their emigration <strong>to</strong> the United States. Also included are term papers written by<br />

Straus while he was enrolled at George<strong>to</strong>wn University and several income tax <strong>for</strong>ms.
