Biographical/his<strong>to</strong>rical note: Caroline Wolsey Ferriday was an executive with<br />

L‘Association Nationale des Anciennes Déportées et Internées de la Résistance (ADIR),<br />

headquartered in Paris. Many Polish survivors of the Nazi medical experiments at<br />

Ravensbrück received monetary compensation from the German government as the result<br />

of Ferriday‘s ef<strong>for</strong>ts <strong>to</strong> obtain restitution <strong>for</strong> the so-called ―lapins.‖ Ferriday also<br />

encouraged friends in the British medical establishment <strong>to</strong> pressure German medical<br />

authorities <strong>for</strong> the revocation of Dr. Herta Oberheuser‘s license <strong>to</strong> practice. Oberheuser<br />

was a Ravensbrück physician responsible <strong>for</strong> many of the experiments on the ―lapins.‖<br />

Oberheuser resumed her medical practice as a pediatrician after her release from<br />

imprisonment <strong>for</strong> crimes against humanity. Her medical license was finally revoked in<br />

1960.<br />

RG-28.014 --- Sidney Stecher Collection of Restitution Claim Files<br />

This collection contains restitution case files <strong>for</strong> Sidney Stecher‘s clients. The case files<br />

contain personal in<strong>for</strong>mation about <strong>Holocaust</strong> survivors, and include place of birth,<br />

occupation, ghet<strong>to</strong> and concentration camp experiences, place of liberation, medical<br />

in<strong>for</strong>mation, and attempts <strong>to</strong> receive restitution from the West German government. The<br />

files also contain various 1930s and 1940s documents that were used as evidence in the<br />

claims process.<br />

Provenance: Upon Sidney Stecher‘s death, the case files became the property of his<br />

stepmother, Sara Stecher. Upon the death of Mrs. Stecher, the files became the property<br />

of Sara Jacobson, Sidney Stecher‘s sister. Upon the death of Sara Jacobson, the files<br />

became the property of her son, Allan Jacobson.<br />

presenting a death certificate <strong>for</strong> a claimant.<br />
