This collection contains documents relating <strong>to</strong> naturalized Canadian citizen Imre Finta,<br />

who served in the Hungarian gendarmerie in 1944 and was the subject of an investigation<br />

and trial as a suspected war criminal. A Canadian court acquitted him in the early 1990s.<br />

Provenance: Randolph L. Braham, the donor, collected the material while serving as a<br />

prosecution expert his<strong>to</strong>rian in the 1980s during the Crown v Finta trial in Ottawa,<br />

Canada.<br />

This collection contains pho<strong>to</strong>copies of archival documents, decrees, notes,<br />

correspondence, reports, testimony, newspaper clippings, and other publications from<br />

various archives and libraries in Hungary. The subjects include ghet<strong>to</strong>s, exemptions, the<br />

―Jewish Question,‖ the Jewish councils, war criminals, Christian priests, and university<br />

professors.<br />

Provenance: Randolph L. Braham, the donor, collected the material from various<br />

Hungarian archives and libraries in pursuit of his scholarly work.<br />
