This collection contains descriptions of the German occupation of Poland, conditions in<br />

the Częs<strong>to</strong>chowa ghet<strong>to</strong>, Joe Gelber‘s separation from his wife and other family<br />

members, the HASAG <strong>for</strong>ced labor camp at Częs<strong>to</strong>chowa, conditions in Buchenwald and<br />

Nordhausen (a.k.a. Dora-Mittelbau), Gelber‘s liberation by Seymour Zipper, his reunion<br />

with his wife and other surviving family members, their experiences at the Feldafing<br />

displaced persons camp, and Gelber‘s emigration <strong>to</strong> the United States. Also included are<br />

an original letter and copy of a pho<strong>to</strong>graph, both by Seymour Zipper, relating <strong>to</strong> Joe<br />

Gelber‘s condition when he was found at Nordhausen.<br />

In this testimony, Herman Jacob describes his family‘s experiences be<strong>for</strong>e, during, and<br />

after the <strong>Holocaust</strong>. He also provides in<strong>for</strong>mation on the fates of 13 family members<br />

imprisoned by the Nazis in places such as Dachau, Buchenwald, and Terezin.<br />

―A Survivor‘s S<strong>to</strong>ry‖ relates Simon Sterling‘s experiences in Nazi-occupied Poland and<br />

the Brody ghet<strong>to</strong>. It also deals with his separation from his wife, Sophie, his deportation<br />

<strong>to</strong> a concentration camp, his escape, his reunion with his wife and their experiences<br />

hiding in a <strong>for</strong>est, their liberation by the Soviet military and eventual escape <strong>to</strong> the<br />

American Zone of Occupation in Germany, the displaced persons camp at Föhrenwald,<br />

Germany, and their immigration <strong>to</strong> the United States.<br />
