―Difficult Years‖ describes the German occupation of Warsaw and Poland and the affect<br />

this occupation had on Mieczylaw Cegielski‘s family. One draft chapter of the memoir<br />

relates <strong>to</strong> Cegielski‘s sister, Zosia, and includes authenticated pho<strong>to</strong>copies of medical<br />

records relating <strong>to</strong> her stay in a military hospital.<br />

occupation of Romania; her postwar life as a refugee in Bucharest, Romania; and her<br />

emigration from Romania <strong>to</strong> the United States in 1947.<br />

<strong>Holocaust</strong>; the German invasion of Poland; conditions inside the Warsaw ghet<strong>to</strong>; his<br />

experiences hiding with an Aryan family during the liquidation of the ghet<strong>to</strong>; and his<br />

attempts <strong>to</strong> seek refuge in a monastery.<br />
