RG-09.014 --- Malcolm Vendig Papers Relating <strong>to</strong> Post-liberation Dachau<br />

This collection contains daily reports, war diaries, and memoranda produced by Capt.<br />

Malcolm A. Vendig while serving in World War II and later as military governor of the<br />

Landkreis Dachau. Subjects covered include the activities of the 83rd U.S. Infantry<br />

Division be<strong>for</strong>e liberation, operations of the Dachau concentration camp after liberation,<br />

the administration of public safety, the distribution of food in the area, and the restart of<br />

industry in the area. Also included are typescripts of discussions held between Vendig<br />

and Dr. Heinrich Kneuer, the Landrat of Dachau.<br />

Provenance: Eleanor Vendig obtained her husband‘s papers after his death and donated<br />

them <strong>to</strong> the Museum.<br />
