RG-15.120M American Joint Distribution Committee in Poland, 1945–1949<br />

This collection contains 2,445 Polish- and <strong>English</strong>-language files of the American Joint<br />

Distribution Committee (AJDC) in Warsaw, including those of the Secretary‘s Office and<br />

the Emigration, Individual Relief and Welfare, Tracing, Warehouses, Bookkeeping,<br />

Administration, and other departments or units. Contents reflect the AJDC‘s main<br />

activities: rendering material assistance (e.g., food, medicine, clothing, <strong>to</strong>ols) and funding<br />

organizations such as the Central Committee of Jews in Poland, the Bund, Zionist<br />

movements, youth associations, religious societies, and Hebrew schools.<br />

Provenance: Source of acquisition is the Jewish His<strong>to</strong>rical Institute of Poland (JHI),<br />

Warsaw. The archives of Joint in Poland, transferred <strong>to</strong> the Jewish His<strong>to</strong>rical Institute in<br />

1949, are far from complete. No significant documentation of the Legal or Supply<br />

Departments survives. The present reorganization of the files was completed in 2005.<br />

RG-15.144M Centralny Komitet Żydów w Polsce. Wydział Emigracji (CKZP, Central<br />

Committee of the Jews in Poland, Department of Emigration), 1946–1948<br />

The CKZP was responsible <strong>for</strong> certifying the ―Jewish nationality‖ of persons wishing <strong>to</strong><br />

emigrate and assisting the Polish government in the issuance of passports and visas. The<br />

first 22 of the 645 files contain such administration materials as announcements, meeting<br />

minutes, reports, and correspondence. Remaining files consist of registration <strong>for</strong>ms and<br />

copies of documents issued by the Department <strong>for</strong> emigration purposes.<br />
