This collection contains letters exchanged between Carolina Taitz and her sister, Berta<br />

Knoch <strong>to</strong>gether with <strong>English</strong> translations prepared by Taitz. The letters discuss living<br />

conditions and <strong>for</strong>ced labor in the Riga ghet<strong>to</strong>. Also included is Taitz‘s survival<br />

testimony, which describes her escape from the Riga ghet<strong>to</strong> and her life in hiding.<br />

This is a translation of a memoir by Sister Marie-Aurelie, Mother Superior of the<br />

Convent of the Sisters of the Very Holy Savior, in Brussels, Belgium. Sister Marie-<br />

Aurelie describes how her convent cared <strong>for</strong> Jewish girls and hid them from the Gestapo<br />

during the German occupation in World War II.<br />

Provenance: From the Archives of the Commune of Anderlecht, Belgium. Lorraine<br />

Lasko donated a copy of the <strong>English</strong> translation of Sr. Marie-Aurelie‘s memoir.<br />
