This collection contains numerous testimonies and memoirs written at the behest of the<br />

United States <strong>Holocaust</strong> Memorial Council during the American Gathering of Jewish<br />

<strong>Holocaust</strong> Survivors convention in April 1983.<br />

RG-02.003 Transcript of Richard Glazar Interview, 1981<br />

This collection contains a transcribed copy of oral testimony given by Richard Glazar. He<br />

devotes a major part of the testimony <strong>to</strong> his experiences in the Treblinka concentration<br />

camp and describes the administration of the camp, the various nationalities of the<br />

prisoners, the method of gassing prisoners and incineration of corpses, the <strong>for</strong>mation of<br />

the orchestra, and the burning of the camp after the uprising.<br />

Provenance: The transcript of the Glazar interview was compiled from two audiotapes in<br />

the Yaffa Eliach Collection (OH 81-21-SU, RG 758) at the <strong>Center</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Holocaust</strong> <strong>Studies</strong><br />

in Brooklyn, New York.<br />

RG-02.004 ―Reborn: Memoirs of a Camp Survivor‖ by Kay Gundel, 1947<br />

Kay Gundel‘s testimony describes in great detail the persecution of Jews living in Berlin,<br />

Germany, just prior <strong>to</strong> World War II, but the greater portion of the text is devoted <strong>to</strong> the<br />

graphic description of Gundel‘s imprisonment at Terezin, Auschwitz, and Merzdorf. The<br />

last part of the testimony relates <strong>to</strong> Gundel‘s return <strong>to</strong> life in Germany and her eventual<br />

emigration <strong>to</strong> the United States. Also included with the testimony are several letters<br />

written <strong>to</strong> the Berthold family of Wilmersdorf, Germany. The letters describe Gundel‘s<br />

voyage from Germany <strong>to</strong> the United States and her adjustment <strong>to</strong> life in New York City.<br />
