This collection consists of typed, transcribed, and translated letters (dated January 23,<br />

1945 and March 12, 1946) describing the German occupation of Hungary, Simon Klein‘s<br />

deportation <strong>to</strong> and experiences in Auschwitz, the deaths of his family members, his<br />

transport <strong>to</strong> Gross-Rosen, and his liberation by the Soviet military. The original letters in<br />

Hungarian are not included.<br />

RG-10.135 The Weinmann Family Papers, 1920–1965<br />

This collection contains various documents relating <strong>to</strong> the experiences of the Weinmann<br />

family in Austria and the United States. The papers include in<strong>for</strong>mation about the<br />

family‘s emigration from Austria <strong>to</strong> the United States, Gustav Weinmann‘s arrest during<br />

Kristallnacht, the family‘s attempts <strong>to</strong> secure finances in German banks after reaching the<br />

United States, and their attempts <strong>to</strong> receive restitution through the United Restitution<br />

Organization <strong>for</strong> property lost after their departure from Austria. Also included are a<br />

letter dated December 4, 1938, and an undated postcard, both of which Gustav<br />

Weinmann wrote while imprisoned in Dachau concentration camp.<br />

This collection contains material collected by Lorenz Schmuhl after the war. It includes<br />

pho<strong>to</strong>s of Buchenwald at liberation; in<strong>for</strong>mation on 1945 services <strong>for</strong> the dead; Allied<br />

reports on Buchenwald; correspondence of the Supreme Headquarters, Allied<br />

Expeditionary Force; material on Latvian displaced persons; and pho<strong>to</strong>s of other<br />

concentration camps.<br />
