RG-19.012 --- Diary of Fannie Stern Selig, November 3, 1947 through December 8, 1947<br />

This travel log was kept by Fannie Stern during her 1947 visit <strong>to</strong> several displaced<br />

persons camps throughout Europe and Palestine. The diary focuses on <strong>to</strong>pics such as the<br />

emigration of Jews <strong>to</strong> Palestine, the care of children, the conditions at abandoned<br />

concentration camps, and the reentry of Jews in<strong>to</strong> normal life after the <strong>Holocaust</strong>.<br />

Biographical/his<strong>to</strong>rical note: Fannie Stern Selig was, at one time, president of the<br />

Women‘s Auxiliary of the Jewish Federation and her 1947 trip was on behalf of the<br />

Federation.<br />

This is a copy of a report given by Col. Henry S. Ot<strong>to</strong>, concerning his involvement with<br />

the SHAEF Intelligence and the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg. Also<br />

included are descriptions of the Allied inspection of Dachau, details of Hermann<br />

Göring‘s surrender <strong>to</strong> the Seventh U.S. Army, and the sentences given <strong>to</strong> the Nuremberg<br />

defendants.<br />

This collection contains documentation on the individuals who successfully or<br />

unsuccessfully sought aid. In all, some 6,000 displaced scholars and professional persons<br />

from Europe appealed <strong>to</strong> the Committee. Of that number, 335 were granted assistance<br />

through the Committee. Of particular importance is series 3, which contains biographical
